What We Delivered

Health App Design

When

Jan - April 2024

Overview

We sought to design a mobile app to transform the experience of managing chronic pain into a manageable and insightful journey, enabling users to retake control of their lives.

While existing apps address this need, they are often costly and vary widely in both functionality and user experience.

My role in the design process focused on pain tracking and personalized insights. I developed of low-fidelity prototypes and the final app design.

Research

Chronic pain impacts approximately 20% of individuals worldwide, significantly reducing quality of life and posing economic and social burdens. PainPal addresses these challenges by combining intuitive design, personalized tools, and data-driven insights to empower users to track their pain patterns, identify triggers, and access support systems.

After reviewing medical journals, case studies, and patient experiences shared on health forums, we made personas.

From there, we identified key requirements for our app: Simple and accessible design with intuitive navigation, Personalized pain tracking to identify triggers and provide tailored insights, Support for pain management such as data-sharing capabilities and help resources.

Ideation

Using Crazy 8s and a feasibility-relevance matrix, we brainstormed features that addressed user needs. From there, we identified three key features:

  1. Pain Tracking: Simple tools for logging pain details, triggers, and medication.
  2. Personalized Insights: Daily generated reminders and alerts to help users manage pain.
  3. Management Support: Tools to share pain logs with healthcare providers and access physician driven guidance.
